What To Do If Your Child Is Getting Bullied?

It can be extremely difficult for any parent to find out that their child is getting bullied. Your children may be already worried about talking to you about it therefore it is important for parents to stay calm in order to properly guide your child in dealing with this sensitive issue.

Here’s what you can do to help your child deal with bullying:

Talk about bullying and cyberbullying
A child who is bullied may feel scared, embarrassed or ashamed so you have to be calm and listen carefully once they talk about their bad experience.
Don’t forget to always check in with them. Remind them that they can always open up their feelings to you.

Help them relax
A bullied child may feel down, worried or lack confidence. Help them find activities that may make them feel relaxed like doing sports or listening to music. Expose them to activities that may bring back or develop their self-confidence.

Teach them how to be safe online
Now that practically everyone has online access, bullying has also invaded the cyber world. If this happens to your child, do not stop them from using the internet or mobile phones. Instead advice/guide them in contacting social media sites if someone posts offensive things against them.

Talk to your child’s school
You may contact your child’s school if he/she is getting bullied. All the schools have a responsibility to protect their students from bullying.

Take further action if the bullying continues
If you are not satisfied with the school response regarding your child’s bullying you may write a letter of complaint to the school’s authorities. You may also continue to keep a record of incidents with as much information as you can.
