Strategies of Good Parenting

Different parents have different styles when it comes to parenting. All parents want what’s best for their children but there comes a time when they implement wrong strategies. They just do what they think is right, not knowing that sometimes their ways of handling their children may lead to unsuccessful parenting. According to studies, there are four types of parenting: the authoritative, neglectful, permissive and authoritarian.

Authoritative parents have high standards when responding to the needs of their children. They are consistent in setting limitations.

Neglectful parents are the uninvolved parents. They are often indifferent. Not responsive to their child’s needs.

Permissive parents make friends with their children and do not expect mature behavior from them. They look forward to more freedom than guidelines and rules.

Authoritarian parents have high expectations from their children with low responsiveness. They are the parents who use punishment as a form of discipline.

According to experts, the most successful parenting is the authoritative parenting. Children who grow up under this style become academically strong and emotionally stable.

When it comes to strategies, there are a lot of simple ways on how you can become a good parent under the authoritative parenting.

Quality time is very important. Having a bonding time with them and knowing their points of view on different things may lead to deeper understanding.

Be a good example. Not just as a parent but as a person, you must be a good example to your children so it will reflect to them.

Limits with patience. Setting limitations via the do’s and don’ts is a good practice of parent and child rules.

Express love. This is the most important. Good parents must have the ability to express love for their children. It can be shown through simple thoughts and actions inside and outside your home. A simple hug and saying I love you is a good example of expressing love.
